ARTIST IN RESIDENCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS
I am available for artist residencies in secondary schools. In this program I instruct senior art students (years 10 to 12) to explore, develop and understand a variety of techniques to create their own detailed botanical studies. With an emphasis on design elements and principles, students develop observational skills and learn about tonal values, pencil and ink rendering, composition, colour, watercolour and gouache’.
The program can be undertaken as a one-week intensive program or over 5 weeks on a one-day per week basis.
This course is an intensive introduction to drawing and painting with an emphasis on design elements and principles that include, perceiving line, exploring composition, format and focal point, developing a strong sense of positive and negative shapes and spaces, understanding perspective and sighting, understanding colour theory (primary secondary tertiary and complimentary colours) and exploring of a variety of drawing and painting techniques using pencils, watercolour and gouache’.
It is preferable to work with students from one year level at a time or who have similar developmental skills and understanding of design elements and principles.
